Ceramic artist based on Ishigaki Island, Japan

I am a ceramic artist based on Ishigaki Island in southern Japan. Here I work with clay and porcelain, following forms that may become functional, sculptural, or somewhere in between. I reflect on island life, the local materials I find, and the nature around me. I let them go, and somewhere in the process, parts of them may find their way back into the work.

Material & Place

I have long been drawn to things gathered from the earth — flowers, weathered wood, clay. I tend to follow whatever catches my attention, often without knowing where it will lead. Living on Ishigaki gives me the space to stay close to that instinct and to the materials and landscape around me.
